How AI reads your receipts

What it does

When you scan or upload a receipt, CrewRoo uses AI to fill in the Vendor Name, Amount, Date, and Category. The Description is left for you. You always review the result before approving it.

The consent prompt

Until you've agreed, tapping Scan with Camera or Upload File first asks: Use AI to read your receipt?

• What is sent: the receipt image you photograph or upload — or, for PDFs, the text extracted from it.
• Who it is sent to: OpenAI, which processes the receipt to extract its details. OpenAI does not use this data to train its models.
• Nothing about your account, clients, or banking is sent.

Tap Agree & continue to go ahead. You're only asked once.

Tap Not now to add the receipt anyway without AI: nothing is sent, and the review screen opens blank for you to type the details in. You won't be asked again until you next open the Add receipt screen.

Turn AI reading on or off

Go to Profile → Personal Information → AI Receipt Reading and use the Use AI to read my receipts switch. Turning it off withdraws your consent: from then on, nothing is sent to OpenAI and you fill in new receipts yourself. Receipts you already added keep their details. Turn it back on anytime.

Confidence

When the AI has read a receipt, the review screen shows how sure it is: High confidence (80% and up), Medium confidence, or Low confidence. Low confidence usually means a faded, crumpled, or partial receipt — check every field. Receipts you fill in yourself show no confidence.

When it gets something wrong

Just fix the field on the review screen and tap Approve. You can also edit an approved receipt later. See Review, approve, or reject a receipt.

If the AI can't read a receipt at all, the upload still works — the review screen says so, the fields are blank, and the category is Misc. Fill them in yourself.
