This applies to pilots in Canada and the UK. US invoices never have a tax line.
Turning it on
Add your GST/HST Number (Canada) or VAT Number (UK) in Profile → Country & Tax Details. Without one, no tax is ever added. The number prints under your name on every invoice.
What CrewRoo adds
- Canada: clients in Canada are charged GST or HST at their province's rate (HST 13% in Ontario, for example). Clients outside Canada get "GST/HST zero-rated (export of services)".
- UK: clients in the UK are charged VAT at 20%. Clients abroad get "Outside the scope of UK VAT".
The rule follows the client's Country. To override it for one client, set GST/HST on Invoices (or VAT on Invoices) on the client's form to Charge tax, Zero-rated, Exempt or Outside the scope.
On each invoice
The invoice summary shows Add HST (or GST, or VAT) with the rate, ticked when the rules say so. You can untick it, change the rate, or charge it on work days only instead of the whole invoice. The PDF shows the subtotal, the tax line and TOTAL DUE.
Tax is worked out once on the invoice total and rounded to the cent. Enter receipts net of any GST/HST or VAT you'll claim back, so you don't charge tax on tax.
Limits
- Tax is only added to invoices in your home currency (CAD or GBP).
- One rate per invoice; no PST or QST.
- Voiding an invoice and revising it reuses its number; CrewRoo doesn't issue credit notes.
This isn't tax advice. Check the right treatment with your accountant.
